Whenever you go to big events, you would always notice that there are these humungous lighting fixture hanging above the grand ballroom. Hotel lobbies never look good without this big lighting fixture as well. When you are over at a friend's house, you would also very well notice that this lighting fixture hangs in the dining room or in the living room. Everyone simply could not get enough of the chandeliers. That is something that is rather not surprising because of the stylish made-up of these lights. However, aside from the pretty and sophisticated faade, there is a lot more to this lighting than what you probably know. Here are a few of the interesting things about the lighting fixture that everyone has come to love:
The very early form of a chandelier is one which is built of wooden sticks having a candle affixed at the end of each. The sticks are formed into a cross having a number of spikes on it to hold the candles. Before, the light is not truly hanged but merely raised. The actual candles usually burn out in a few minutes. Therefore, replacing them is really necessary.
The usage of glass was mainly to illuminate and scatter the light since candlelight is very minimal. Because of this innovation, a chandelier is enough to light up a hallway or abbey.
The origin of the word is from the Latin word candelabrum which means candle holder. This is simply because this particular kind of illumination kept candles at a raised area instead of the typical candle holders that are placed on top of tables.
Until the 15th century, churches, exclusively, are able to utilize chandeliers. Until the Gothic era, the bronze ones are created only for the church's utilization. But only those that were very affluent are in a position to own one or a few number of this illumination dcor. Hence, this has also turned out to be a status symbol in many societies.
The more complex designs of a chandelier emanated from designs of crowns and rings. Since most of the earlier forms of this lighting were placed in prominent buildings such as the church and the palaces, it has become customary to do away with the simple designs and use the more intricate designs for the lighting's shape.
Because of the developments in glassmaking during the 18th century, the more refractive lead crystal became cheaper to manufacture and thus therefore lead to the popularity of the crystal chandeliers.
The introduction of gas and electrical power throughout the 18th and 19th century directed the way to the contemporary chandelier.
Even in the modern day era, the allure of this particular type of lighting is still really prominent. You will find even ones that make use of expensive diamonds and gold for this sort of lighting!
Considered the most expensive chandelier in the world is sold at more than 100, 000!!!
Perhaps, upon reading this, you already feel that a chandelier is more special than any other lighting. When one owns a chandeliers he or she is considered making a lot of money. It is undeniable that you do have to shell out a few amounts to buy even just one piece. But once you already have it around the house, the benefits are countless.
