Pirates are a big fascination with children and if you have a birthday party coming up, why not choose to make it a pirate themed party. You can have all the children arrive in fancy dress. This article is aimed at giving you ideas and information on how to have the perfect pirate party.

Pirate party invitations are the perfect accompaniment to your pirate themed party and you can buy these or make them yourself. If you are going to make them yourself be sure to use large sheets of paper that can be rolled up like scrolls. The aim is to draw a map on the back of the invitation with your house marked with a big X. These are great fun to make and your child will love delivering them to all their friends.

No pirate party would be complete without some pirate decorations. There are plenty of ideas to choose from such as cross and skull flags to boats and even planks for walking. One of the easiest decorations to include in your party is a treasure box. All you need is a toy box which you can then decorate and fill with treats. If you want to go for the real treasure look you can buy some candy necklaces and gold covered chocolate coins to fill the chest with. The main colors for your pirate themed decorations should be white, red and black and it is a good idea to have some fake parrots lying around the place too. Long balloons can be blown up to look like swords and you can also make your own cutlasses out of cardboard.

Pirate themed party food should include fish and biscuits as this was the diet that pirates lived on especially when they were at sea. Tuna sandwiches and fish sticks can be served along with a selection of biscuits. If you want to include some healthy alternatives in your party food you can buy some sword shaped toothpicks which you can place in pieces of fruit and cheese. Rum was the drink of pirates and ginger ale works really well as an alternative for children. You can also include decorated cupcakes in your party food line up and these can have pirate flags, parrots and even treasure maps on them.

A treasure hunt is the perfect pirate themed party game and one that is very easy to do. All you need is your treasure chest and some treasure maps which you can make yourself. You will also hide clues around your garden. Each treasure maps should be a little different to make things more fun. Divide all your guests into groups of four and give each a map. Watch as they race and scurry around looking for the hidden treasure.

Children love to dress up so why not make your pirate themed party a fancy dress one too. You can hire a wide range of pirate costumes and these will add to the excitement. No pirate costume would be complete without a sword, eye patch, hat and scarf. You can even buy a fake parrot to place on your shoulder if you like. A very popular pirate costume is that of Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie and most good costume stores will have these in all sizes.

No child's birthday party is complete without party bags. When it comes to a pirate party there is no end to the items you can include in the bag. Gold coins, telescopes, and treasure maps are all readily available online and do not cost a fortune. Some retailers even offer a prefilled party bag service.
